As Promised -- My November 15 Announcement
I wanted to time this to the former President’s announcement later today.
So I would like to announce several things.
I intend to use the Substack app more for my writing and use Facebook less. I encourage you to follow this link and subscribe to my Substack blog The Senescent Man.

Secondly, my great disappointment in the 2022 general election as many of you likewise feel. From what I have gleaned from the polling data before the election, the results of the election thus far, and some polling after the vote, I conclude that two things affected the results in a negative way to Republicans
Women were more upset about Dobbs than met the eye. They concluded it was a frontal attack on their rights, a step backwards in our democracy, and all republicans were in the crossfire. An example is Allan Fung. Polls had hum 5% points ahead the day before the election. But he lost because of the juggernaut of ads put on by Magziner’s largess and the DCCC. They just hammered him on his purported relationship to Trump and McCarthy and his pro life stance. (more on that in a moment)
And the other anvil weighing on Republicans was Donald Trump and the relitigating 2020 and the conspiracies about fraud and voting counts which never demonstrated any actual effect on that election – but voters were tired of it – even those sympathetic to Trump. It turned out that the more rabid Trump supporters were not welcomed by independent voters who were expected to vote GOP, but instead did not. The voters wanted problem solving.
So going forward, my posts will not in any way be supportive of Donald Trump.
My position is congruent to Trump’s Attorney General Bill Barr. I encourage everyone to read his excellent book “One Damn Thing After Another” The book provides a long list of Trump policy successes which he applauds (as do I). But documents when Trump let the reservation.
Numerous publications that had been vociferous defenders of Trump are now (appropriately) moving away from him. He is poised to muck up the future for the GOP and conservatives across the country, as he did in this election.
Candidate quality was important and what happened was Trump supported weak candidates that supported his view that the election was stolen but were not the most electable candidates.
This violated William Buckley’s maxim to vote for “the most conservative and electable” candidates. Instead we got nationalists, beholden to DJT that were mostly unelectable. We can’t afford this going forward or we will get the most left wing progressive outcome of our era.
Ironically, before the election, voters were expressing dismay with the Biden presidency where 78% exclaimed we are on the wrong track with only 22% indicating our being on the right track under Joe Biden. Why didn’t we win more in the House and Senate? Because candidates were below par.
So I wanted to give you a heads up about that. Many of you are dear friends who just put up with my rants. To you I say thank you. But many of you are avid Trump supporters. I don’t want you to be offended, so to you I say, though we may agree on policy, if being opposed to Donald Trump is going to offend you, I recommend you unfriend me, because I am going to hammer him going forward. You’re welcome to hang around in debate, but I am going all out for DeSantis or Youngkin. These are vibrant, creative, successful conservatives that are also of a new generation.
Lastly I want to touch on abortion. The naively believed it wasn’t going to be a major issue. I was wrong. As I said earlier, many women, and supporting men, saw the Dobbs decision as removing rights. But that is not what it did, and Republicans sufficiently shied away from the issue that there was never a counterpoint to it. Now I think we need to clarify and articulate our position. And our position ought to be that there are two people’s rights involved here. The mother and the child. As a mom with a new born how far back before the birth of the child would they be willing to kill it for their convenience, and you will be amazed how alarming that is to them. Babies pre-birth and after birth need the attention of the mother. Yes it is inconvenient, but that is the ontological design of it. At the very least the issue of abortion should be a moral dilemma when it is unexpected or caused by trauma, and over 70% of Americans favor some restrictions on abortion. We never articulated that. We ran from the issue, and as a result, the bad guys won. That has to change going forward. We need a robust defense of the unborn. We need to do more educating as to what is really involved, and to get the ideologues out of the debate.
In conclusion, in order to assure a movement toward conservative governing, we need to clear the way from the Trump minority (I estimate 30% of the GOP). He will lay a trap forcing us to carry the unfaithful 30% so we will lose elections going forward, and we cannot allow him to hold the rest of GOP hostage. We have to take control of all the GOP supporting institutions and organizations like CPAC and others run by Trump acolytes. For example, the Schlaps have got to go.
My personal raisson d’etre is to do what I can to turn the tide. If you are with me, stay on board. Enjoy by cat jokes and my reformed quotations, and if you don’t, thank you for having remained a friend up to now, but I will understand if I don’t see you any more.
